MUAR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The special general meeting of the Muar Umno division Saturday unanimously passed a motion to urge the Umno Supreme Council (MT) to abolish the nomination quota for the post of party president, deputy president, vice-presidents and MT members.
The division suggested that each candidate should get only 10 nominations from the Umno divisions to be eligible to contest the posts.
Under article 9.5 of the Umno Constitution, the candidate for the post of president must obtain 30 per cent of the nominations from valid Umno divisions to be eligible to contest, 20 per cent nominations for the post of deputy president, 10 per cent for vice-presidents and five per cent for MT members.
A total of 308 delegates from 131 Umno branches who attended the meeting at the Dewan Tun Sulaiman Ninam Shah at Jalan Meriam, here raised their hands to indicate their agreement as soon as deputy permanent chairman, Muntaha Kailan called on the delegates to decide on the motion.
The delegates also passed a motion to amend the requirement for nomination for the post of Umno division head to two nominations.-- BERNAMA
